God gave me faith in myself,
not only on days when I’m going great and winning
and nothing seems impossible
but on days when the whole world looks lousy
and I’m losing and the road ahead seems too hard.
When I wonder if I’m brave enough, smart enough
and I must be crazy to try,
don’t let me quit Lord, not ever.
Let me keep the faith in myself.
No matter how many people
discourage me…
doubt me…
laugh at me…
warn me…
think me a fool…
Don’t let me listen.
Let me hear another voice telling me,
“You can do it and you will!”
If nobody else in this world gives a darn or believes in me,
let me believe in myself.
I know there’ll be times when I will doubt my own abilities,
when I’ll be discouraged and on the verge of despair,
don’t let me give up,
hang onto me.
Fan the fires so that I’ll try even harder.
Give me more faith in myself.
Dear Lord, you are the source of life and power.
You are the source of my abilities and my faith.
Thank you for reinforcements.
I know that you will give me for what I ask…
Faith in myself.

Good Morning LFT!
Not for the sake of “stirring the pot;” but just because this is one of those times when something must be said.
I wouldn’t have faith in myself anymore than I have faith in my shadow’s ability to drive my 4X4 truck over the river and through the woods to my daughter’s home for Thanksgiving dinner.
Jesus Is Who Our Faith Is In! Anyone or anything else, including self, is nothing more than a flimsy, empty shadow of Truth. This is all documented in the Bible.
“To God, Alone Wise, Be Glory Through Jesus Christ Forever. Amen.”
Romans 16:27
Molly,
If you don’t believe in yourself then how can believe in God? Show me someone who doesn’t believe in their self and I’ll show you a bum.
Yes, we should believe in Jesus, but he does expect us to be able to believe we can do a job when he leads us to it.
Molly,
Another word for faith in one’s self is “strength.” This author was praying for strength.
Hi LFT!
I stand by my #1 post. In fact ……. I base my life on it. It’s all right there in Scripture. My faith is in none other than The Lord Jesus Christ and I ain’t move’n.
You asked: “If you don’t believe in yourself then how can [you] believe in God?”
You’ll find the answer to that question and all other questions in the Bible. I won’t answer it for you because I wouldn’t want to deprive you of the fun of the search.
“Grace To You And Peace From God Our Father And The Lord Jesus Christ.”
-1 Corinthians 1:3
Molly,
You aren’t depriving me from anything. I stand strong in my convictions. No one will brow beat me into not believing in my own strength and having faith in myself.
You remind me of the little old ladies who come to church to judge how others are worshiping…and that isn’t a compliment.
I haven’t seen you around here in a while. And now you show up to try to judge what I posted!
There is nothing wrong with being confident in one’s self. It’s a gift He gave me…along with strength. Without confidence how could I possibly go out daily and tell others about God’s love.
Good Morning LFT!
“The Grace Of The Lord Jesus Christ, And The Love Of God, And The Communion Of The Holy Spirit Be With You All. Amen.”
-2 Corinthians 13:14

May Your Day be Awash to Overflowing with Christ’s Peace and Goodness!

Self confidence/faith in our selves is one of God’s greatest gifts to us…
This is my humble opinion said with confidence…:)
Idaho-girl,
I agree with you 100% and have been trying to say it…only you did it much better! You have made my day. Make that night, it’s almost midnight my time!
Every person is made in the image of God whether His child or not. That image is corrupted in the unredeemed, but it still resides inside the unredeemed. As the scripture says all things good are from God. Even consider secular rock bands like Metallica with great skills in music. Metallica would not exist without God nor would their skills. People who are not God’s children will steal the glory for the gifts that God gave them. They will also abuse the gifts that God gave them and have to give an account for it on the day of judgment.
This brings me to my point. Though people sin they still contain a spark of God in them (or they would not even be breathing). The unsaved are blind and dead to the existence of this spark of God inside them, but it still impacts them. A characteristic of hell could be defined as the permanent separation from this spark. If we seek to understand our gifts we will be driven to God and glorify Him. As Romans chapter 1 states God existence is interwoven into creation and our psychology whether we recognize this our not. God’s creation is good and point people to His existence leaving people without an excuse. When the church at large collectively exercises the gifts that God has given they become the body of Christ.
What does this have to do with the topic at hand?
Not only do we need to recognize our own gifts and believe in them, but we also need to recognize and trust the spiritual gifts that others contribute. Most Christian fundamentalists are too immature to understand this fact. When you mention believing in yourself most dedicated Christian become concerned because they do not understand. Why does God want His children to stop drinking milk and mature to eating meat? A spiritual baby hesitates at each step in heavy dependency upon the written word and spiritual fathers. A mature believer is able to identify their own gifts exercising them in confidence and also becomes able to identify and trust the gifts in others. This is spiritual maturity. Spiritual immaturity is when a person drinks milk. Milk is attached to the breasts right???? A baby always needs mom near by right???? Remember how God had to push people like Moses and Joshua to step up in courage???
This topic interests me because it caused me to identify many problems plaguing the modern church. Mama does not want her babies to grow up. Mama likes to feel needed and be depended upon so she keeps babying her kids and prohibiting their growth. The modern church is not developing leaders, but instead in arrogance refuses to share the stage. This is why we have a lot of babies attending a few mega churches hoarding the leadership positions. I thank God that He is in control and expect this problem to soon be resolved God Himself.
I wrote something on my blog today before I even came here. I was thinking about this to some extent already and then came here and was ready to drop this word.
very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
Idetrorce
Idetrorce,
If you don’t agree, then at least be man or woman enough to say why and state what would back up your opinion. Just doing a drive by I don’t agree won’t cut it here!
Idetrorce:
Do you know everything there is to know about Godand His bride?
When God brings us the kind of people who need what we have they often have difficulty relating to us.
Interesting how when someone with a need comes I have often resented them for that very need.
I too ask what is it that you do not agree with and why?
As a profession, I write grants and it is becoming more and more difficult to research and figure out who I may be dealing with. I almost got tangled up with an atheist summer camp for children, for example. Why would I want to help them with funding? In the past year, at least two hours have been added to my work day (which cuts in to other endeavors, like blogging;-) in just trying to figure out who’s hiding behind which organization or name. Every church using “Christ” in the name is not Christian, but you already know that. I implore you to be careful and read between the lines!
In one of my first posts, I innocently/ignorantly referenced an author who writes books against Christianity, lauding atheism. What I cited was about history and there was no indication of beliefs, one way or the other, but I still would not want to lead anyone to his website.
It has shocked me to learn just how many celebrities are deeply entrenched in the New Age Movement (Oprah is a biggie and has many on her show to exemplify that), and I’m not entirely sure they are aware b/c satan is so expertly deceptive. Did you see the report that Tom Cruise is the “christ of scientology”…Please research and check everything against the Bible before adhering to or adopting any beliefs!
False prophets are indeed out in force, and Molly’s concern may come from this post seeming so close to some of the New Age “we are all gods” rhetoric. I enjoyed it and am able to put it in the context and spirit that you intended, LFT, and pray continually for God’s guidance. We are not to hide our light under a bush and it takes confidence ( should I say ‘guts’ in this hostile world?) to witness.
Incidentally, idetroce is a spammer who I read sent millions of those comments. I got mine, but since putting comments on “Awaiting Moderation” deleted it for the same reason your response stated…”You can’t tell me why you disagree?”. Patience with nonsense is wearing thin… imagine how God feels! Some may disagree with me, but why waste so much precious time on arguing? People have resources, yet look for reasons to disbelieve rather than believe in Jesus as Savior. (I’m working on not worrying so much about things only God can handle.)
I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog, LFT, and will be checking in again to read more of your posts! (btw, I love Billy Sunday, too).
God’s Blessings and Merry Christmas to All!
Odale:
There is only one God in three persons.
He created man in His image, but man disgraced His image and brought corruption down upon the human race.
God provided a sacrifice of grace to redeem the world. Today some accept this sacrificial gift and others disgrace themselves by rejecting it.
I do love Oprah, but I love God’s one and only son Jesus more. The sad part is that Oprah shows more love to the world then the Church does currently. I pray that God will give us the strength as His bride to repent.
Why do Christians often hate the ones who need them the most?
Joshua: Speaking for myself b/c a relationship with Jesus is personal and does not have anything to do with the church when it comes down to kneeling before the throne (not sure Jesus would recognize He was in a church, in some cases). I do not hate anyone, but I do not beat my head against a wall trying to “convince” or “debate” them into believing in Jesus Christ as Savior and repenting. (Matthew 10:14) I feel strongly aqainst those who have an audience as wide as Oprah’s leading millions astray. Oprah’s own family has stated that they don’t recognize the beliefs she has adopted. Oprah only tells people what they want to hear, and it is also in scripture (Matt 7:13-14) that many will choose the “broad way” (it’s easier and self-gratifying; don’t have to look at our sinful humanness) It’s not about “hate” and it’s not a personal attack on anyone. I feel the same way, for different reasons, about Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson’s dad (who gave up the pulpit to “manage” both his daughter’s “careers”), Dr. Phil (counseling two gay men recently as a couple and claiming to be a Christian), Montel (Sylvia Brown, psychic, or whichever title she claims) and so on. Kinda makes Jerry Springer look like an honest man cuz we know it’s debauchery going in! What matters, though, is what God thinks and feels, and whether people repent. God does not change (Malachi 3:6) and I realize that many believe certain things are now acceptable.
Be careful, Joshua, who and what you embrace and who you accuse of “hate”. It didn’t pass this time, but there is a Bill that keeps being submitted in Congress that would make it a “hate crime” to teach about the things that God plainly says he hates. There are people in prisons and being tortured in this world for being a Christian…US citizens could be next. If you are truly a Christian, you know that God is love, INDEED, but he also has a wrathful side when it comes to disobedience, and our culture has gone “slam crazy”.
I am so tired of “the church” and Christians as a whole being vilified when it’s up to individuals to make the Church and Christianity what Christ intended.
God Bless You All and Merry Christmas!!
Odale:
I am glad you don’t hate Oprah and sorry for insinuating that you did.
All of the people you mentioned need Jesus. In no way are the people you mentioned misleading people intentionally especially if they are spiritually blind. It is the Christians who do most of the vilifying these days more then the world. We should not expect those who may not know God to act like Christians. Jesus ate and drank with sinners and the only people he condemned were the religious leaders. Today the church jumps on the political soap box and points it’s fingers with the attitude of the pharisees. Christians are known to the world as judgmental, discontent complainers, who get happy at the prospect of the world getting worse and coming to an end. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think people saw our Saviour in this light when He walked in our shoes. In Jesus day it was the religious leaders who were held the most responsible for the spiritual state of religious society.
James 3:1 – My brothers, do not be many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
All you have to do is look up the word Pharisee in your Bible.
